USWNT win the World Cup.

🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐

It was brilliant to schedule the Gold Cup Final on the same day as the World Cup in France. It illustrates the gap between the American men and women. If anything, it shows the American men should be paid less than the American women.

Neoliberalism and the establishment media hold back the US men’s team.

Cory Booker is more sorry that he’s polling at 1%-3%

Booker just realized he can no longer ride Harris’ coattails on the busing issue. He’s likely more disturbed by the fact that his poll numbers remain as low as they were before he chimed in.

I love Bern’s email blasts, full of desperate pleading and seething with resentment. I think he and his team know his revolution is quixotic, and that his nomination hopes lack any basis in political reality.

Tsipras was schooled by Merkel and played by Varoufakis. Now he’s out of power.

Pelosi has been chewing up and spitting out political newbies like AOC for years.

AOC is a Perónista. Go figure.

The only thing missing from Trump’s militaristic Fourth of July was Leni Riefenstahl.

Potemkin presidency

It’s been all downhill for Trump from the start: from the worst inaugural address since Genghis Khan, to a Muslim ban — written by a pair of flying monkeys — that was immediately slapped down, to the lying caricature of a press secretary implicating the UK in a fake scandal based on fake news from a fake judge, to today’s utter humiliation on the world stage courtesy of the formidable Ms Merkel.

It’s obvious that he’s afraid of Merkel.

Trump is loath to attack another billionaire like Putin, who helped get him elected. Hence, US foreign policy is totally compromised and the major European capitols know this.

Trump should release a recent MRI.

Pas attendre

The bailout of Greece is a done deal. Tsipras and Varoufakis were walkovers for Ms Merkel. Game theory, set, match.

Wafels & Dinges is the best food cart in NYC.

Heathers was the best American movie of the 1980s.

Reverend Huckabee is headed to the Middle East to be on hand for The Rapture.

Corner of Bleecker and nowhere

Journalists can’t demand transparency from everyone but themselves without falling into self-serving hypocrisy.

Wikileaks advocates transparency but seeks privacy when it’s convenient, a performative contradiction.

Syriza are the hoplites of prosperity.

Pundits say Syriza’s victory is a defeat for Germany. However, one should never underestimate Ms Merkel. She’ll pull her euros out of the fire yet.

The Church of England finally has a female bishop. 481 years in the making.

Money power glory

Regarding the Booker Prize shortlist: instead of characterizing the composition of the list as British versus American authors, it should be viewed as recognition of the English diaspora.

The new Apple Watch will look great on my wrist.

The “Go Slow” protest: an infantile revolt of a few billion dollar tech corporations.

N.B.  Despite the naive philosophy propagated by outfits like EFF, the “internet” is structured by the same social dynamics that operate in meatspace: money and power. It is no sacred realm of utopian freedom. The “Go Slow” protesters are just a set of large corporations on the losing end of a struggle against other large corporations. So sad.

Angela Merkel appears to be the only adult leader in Europe.
