Out there

The highest achievements of the aesthetic decadence occurred during the Victorian era. Cultural works in this aesthetic today are merely lurid because they aim to shock morally rather than to explore the delicate intersection of disgust and desire which over-rides all unconscious inhibitions.

Cult classics are films that are typically enhanced by high grade ganja (see Zardoz, the original Solaris, The Big Lebowski, The Saragossa Manuscript, etc). Exceptions to this rule include Liquid Sky (1983) and The Addiction (1995).
