Words I heard

M4A is DOA. Everyone knows it.

Smart candidates will move out of this sackgasse rather than fighting for the best parking spot in it.

Can’t see anyone voting for Trump because he’s better spoken or more coherent than Biden. MAGAts vote for him because he’s a bigot and appeals to their cultural ressentiment.

Biden appeals to proles because he speaks to their moral decency. Trump can never be morally decent.

AOC simply isn’t helping Bern. The age contrast is not flattering.

When Bern and Warren wage their petite guerre de classe against billionaires, they always mention Bezos or Bloomberg, but never Oprah. I wonder if this is strategic/tactical since they poll rather low with black voters or if they view Oprah as an “exceptional” billionaire.

Jacobin has circled the ideological wagons against Warren, going so far as to attack her daughter. The more sophisticated Marxists at the publication must know this was highly undialectical. But the quality of leftwing writer has deteriorated from the days of the Partisan Review.

Bernie stans have one goal: to destroy the Democratic Party “Establishment,” including the NAACP, Planned Parenthood, etc. Anything that stands against Bern must be razed to the ground.

People are upset that Trump flacks keep appearing on MSNBC and CNN. You have to realize these media types travel in the same circles. I went to one of Al Sharpton’s National Action events and one of the speakers was Bill O’Reilly (with whom the Rev was quite chummy). These presenters are not as hostile to each other as we are to one political branch of them.

Distance from necessity breeds indifference to necessity. That’s a simple, objective reason.

Four moods

Beshear is no AOC or Sanders. Can’t imagine there will any champagne uncorked at the offices of the Justice Democrats or in yurts of the Sunrisers.

The so-called progressive wing of the Democratic Party will view a Beshear victory as a repudiation of their ideology and, therefore, as a defeat.

Trump trends higher in counties with high meth and oxy addiction.

Most damaging to the faith-healers who touched Trump: their souls are saturated with sin.

Re the changing of the guard at One Police Plaza: It’s always a big deal when a street gang changes leadership.

Roger Stone is the forgotten capo of the Trump Crime Family.

Bern marched with Dr King and broke rocks with Mandela.

Bern doesn’t care about the math. He just wants to come off as one angry populist, more angry, and hence, more progressive, than Warren.

Regarding Bern’s M4A plan … to quote Marx (from the 18th Brumaire of Louis Bonaparte): “There the phrase went beyond the content.”

It’s one thing when Shep went off on Trump. But when Ed Henry flips, one knows Trump has lost Fox News.

I can’t believe people still believe in “age appropriateness” for consenting adults. Must be the New Puritanism.

Populism is why we can’t have nice things.

Everything’s not lost

Jacobin magazine is already attempting to cushion the inevitable disappointment of Berniebros/brosettes with a quote from Eugene Debs:

“It is infinitely better to vote for freedom and fail than to vote for slavery and succeed.” – Eugene Debs

The “losing is winning” mentality is Debs making a virtue of necessity.

After the rude welcome Trump received at a UFC event in NYC, Dana White will receive a tweetful of hate from the Big Bonespur.

Warren and Sanders lack a heavyweight in economics to legitimate their half statements about paying for M4A.

This is doubtless because they are riding the wave of anti-expertise ressentiment of the current populist moment.

The otherwise intelligent Dave Weigel recently referred to Clinton’s “gaffe” re coal miners in West Virginia.

Clinton’s gaffe?

Preliminary figures for 2018 show 80,778 people were employed by mine operators and contractors. That’s a record low, and about a thousand fewer than were employed by coal in the last year of the Obama administration.

Coal miners are dinosaurs.

As a student of the “Critique of the Gotha Program,” Bernie knows the proles must use the state to smash the bourgeoisie. Marx’s hostility to Bakunin followed from this. Likewise, Bern as no affinity with anarchism. Hence, no blathering about the deep state from his quarter.

Buttigieg’s plan for a plethora of “national service” programs, which would also function as a pre-requisite for future employment, sounds like the model for an American Stakhanovite.

Service is for knechts, serfs, and butlers in Merchant-Ivory films.

Let’s not make Deadspin out to be the NY Times or any other serious journalistic venture.
